A Red Evening out in Paris

A few days ago, without planning it, my husband and I had a Red evening out in Paris. For some time now, I have wanted to attend a concert at the Théâtre des Champs Elysées. So I bought the tickets online for a performance of the arias of Johann Sebastian Bach sang by Natalie Stutzmann. Quite unexpectedly, the tickets arrived in a Red envelope. And this was not the end of my surprises. Before the concert we went for dinner. There are many restaurants in the area which serve an early (for France) pre-show dinner. We settled for The Bar des Théâtres, one of the oldest establishments in the neighborhood. The restaurant was furnished with bright red velvet chairs and decorated with red theater posters. The Bar des Théâtres is known in Paris for its steak tartare, which is the most frequently ordered dish on the menu and which I felt nearly compelled to take (they also have a steak tartare pizza). It was absolutely deliciously red. The concert was excellent. Needless to say the Théâtre des Champs Elysées has red carpets and chairs. Natalie Stutzmann sang beautifully. Among the arias she performed was the magnificent and emotional “Erbarme dich, mein Gott, um meiner Zähren Willen!” from the Passion of St Matthew, a sacred oratorio written by Bach in 1727. I thought that, after all, this evening was an excellent sign for my blog and my writing projects.
