Angelica’s recipes – Red Salad

As you know my biography of Angelica Balabanoff ‘The Strange Comrade Balabanoof: The Life of a Communist Rebel‘ has been published in June by McFarland Publishers. To celebrate the launch of the book I decided to devote my blog to Angelica’s lifestyle, friends, recipes and places where she lived during her long and interesting life. I was looking for a new recipe for dinner to mark the beautiful sunny days we are enjoying in Paris in October. As usually I wanted to find a recipe which corresponded to Angelica’s taste and would be reddish if possible. I came across this salad recipe while flipping through one of the fashion magazines in the bookstore ‘Drugstore’ on the Champs Elysees, Paris, while waiting to go to see a movie. I’m sorry I do not remember exactly the name of the magazine or the details of the recipe. The main ingredients: beetroot, potatoes and hareng reminded me of my childhood and my grandmother so I decided to improvise and make it at home. To make the Red Salad for two you will need: 1 beetroot (I took a precooked beetroot),  4 medium potatoes,  ½ apple, 1 small onion, 1 filet of hareng, and a few brines of cilantro (optional). For a dressing: olive oil, vinegar and mustard. New Summer Version of Tomatoes/Mozzarella – Strawberries/Feta Cheese Salad

Here is a new chic and trendy New Summer Version of Tomatoes/Mozzarella –Strawberries – Feta Cheese Salad Serves 4/Preparation time 15 min Ingredients: 500 gr strawberries 200 gr feta cheese 2 tbsp Olive oil Basil leaves to taste Mint leaves to taste ½ Lemon Ground Pepper To make the Strawberries – Feta Cheese Salad: Wash and pat dry basil and mint sprigs and tear off leaves; Rinse strawberries in water, remove green caps and stems and slice into halves. Place strawberries in a salad bowl, sprinkle with chopped basil and mint leaves, pour half of the olive oil/lemon juice mix into bowl, mix delicately and put into refrigerator. Before serving, decorate 4 plates with remaining basil leaves, spread out the halved strawberies, scatter the feta cheese over top, drizzle with remaining oilive oil/lemon juice mix, add ground pepper to taste and serve. Easy-To-Make Red Turkey and Ham Salad

Take what’s left of the fruit bowl and some of leftover ham and turkey, a you’ve got a great family salad in 15 minutes flat. If you are taking the salad to work, keep the dressing separate until you want to eat. Ingredients : 180g red lettuce 2 riep pears or crisp apples A good handful of chopped walnuts (or use hazelnuts or pine nuts) 3 slices each turkey and ham For the dressing 1 small red onion, finely chopped 1 tbsp wine vinegar, any type 2 tbsp clear honey 125g pot low-fat natural yogurt to make the Easy-To-Make Red Turkey and Ham Salad Tip the bag of salad on to a large platter. Quarter core and slice the pears or apples then scatter over the salad leaves with the walnuts. Cut the turkey and ham into strips and scatter over the top Mix together all the dressing ingredients in a small bowl, then drizzle over the salald just before serving Takes 15 min / serves 4 Per serving 240 calories *From Good Food, 101 Budget Dishes.
