The Musée Marmottan Monet is certainly one of the prettiest museums in Paris, and also my favorite. It is situated in the 16tharrondisement, not far from the Bois de Boulogne, in a former hunting lodge that belonged to Christophe Edmond Kellerman, Duke of Valmy. The museum regroups a collection of the last owner of the house, a renowned 19th-century collector, Jules Marmottan, some other private collections and of course the works of Claude Monet, which were bequeathed by his family to the French State after the painter’s death. Monet’s paintings are exhibited in a room, which had been specially constructed for them, adding some captivation to the ambiance and offering a magical view of these works of art. The museum regularly holds exhibitions. Until July 6 it has an exhibition of Impressionist paintings coming from private collections. The museum does not have a café so after your visit and before hopping into the nearest Metro –La Muette- or taking a taxi right next to the station, have a Matsuri fluffy strawberry cake with whipped cream, at the Yamazaki Tea-Room. This small Japanese-owned café has delicious French and Japanese drinks and patisseries, as well as a selection of Japanese-inspired sandwiches and salads at reasonable prices. To get there: Musée Marmottan Monet- 2 Rue Louis Boilly, 75016 Paris Open Daily (except Monday): 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. Tuesdays until 8 p.m. By Metro – the nearest station-is La Muette, on Line 9, and it offers a beautiful walk through one of my favorite […]
